Here’s what a few of our listeners think about Hidden Legal Figures. . .
Hidden Legal Figures is an awesome adventure in time. I am not a lawyer, but these stories are truly fascinating. History has a habit of over looking people who actually make history, but this podcast does a great job of introducing the audience to heroes we otherwise would not know.
— Aaron Johnson
Attorney Pope’s podcast presents a mixture of colorful and intriguing commentary with that of factual and educational material. Its presentation is spellbinding with great anticipation for the remaining segments. The Ed Johnson 1906 case is among similar cases that permeated the legal justice system for a number of years!
— George Biddle
A phenomenal compilation of the historic impact of the hidden accomplishments of so many dynamic and broadly experienced lawyers! A wonderfully produced presentation that demands your attention while educating and entertaining! I was truly impressed by the information I extracted and have now held on to regarding individuals whom I never either knew or knew such in depth information about....very well done!
— Jami Leek
WOW! This is probably one of the most informed podcasts around. The moderator Derrick Pope is so engaging. The podcast is scholarly, relevant and necessary to have a national conversation. It provides insight and background to aid in the development of a solid perspective to move forward. This information is critical for a winning strategy.
— An engaged student
Hidden Legal Figures highlights the careers and contributions of outstanding, but sometimes little known, legal professionals and personalities. All of them played vital roles in the Civil Rights Movement and in the shaping of our society. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the features for Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander and my hero, Constance Motley! Given the difficult times in which we are witnessing, this podcast is a much needed source of information and inspiration. I highly recommend "Hidden Legal Figures: The Podcast!"
— Vivian Flagg Davis
The Hidden Legal Figures podcast devoted to sharing the story of James Weldon Johnson, attorney and author of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" is extremely enlightening and well presented by Derrick Alexander Pope. I eagerly await the opportunity to hear future podcasts produced by Mr. Pope and his outstanding team.

This is an eye-opening insight into the legal justice system that crippled people of color. The unwavering determination of attorneys Parden and Hutchinson was a groundbreaking series of events that changed the justice system. This podcast is an important entity that explains how pertinent black attorneys were and are now. And the narration keeps you on the edge of your seat anticipating the next event of the case. Continued Success!
— Janice Brownlee
So engaging. I am late but not absent from this pod. I’ve only listened to the most recent interview of W. J. Michael Cody and now the entire library of Hidden Legal Figures is on my priority list. As a matter of fact I have listened to this interview three times today. The historical information from a lawyer’s perspective and Derrick’s style of active listening and leading the interview with occasional pauses for background info is pleasing to my ears. Well done.

Hidden Legal Figures recounts contributions to advances for civil rights in America in a storytelling style that is easy to follow and understand. The stories of the lives and work of lawyers draws the listener in from beginning to end. Fascinating to hear how much I still don’t fully appreciate all the many victories that had to come together to liberate Americans and grant them the rights that should have started in 1776.
Great work, good listening, and fantastic learning!

Learning from lawyers is insightful. Hidden Legal Figures is a great way for novices like myself, to understand the law. Through this medium, I can stay up to date while commuting or on a lunch break. The guest interviews are fascinating as well as the cases chosen. I wish I could give this podcast more than 5 stars!

Just listened to the James Weldon Johnson episode -- immensely captivating storytelling in a most compelling and creative style. And truly appreciate the detailed narrative of how his legal journey helped give birth to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Wonderful tribute to one of the giants of the 20th Century, and presented in a groundbreaking format that will inform and inspire young and old for generations to come. Very well done...

I was not aware of the Ed Johnson case prior to listening to this podcast. The information was detailed, yet straight to the point. Even though it was a horrific case, the host, Derrick Pope JD, and the audio reenactment of the trial proceedings made listening a bit entertaining. As an educator, this will certainly be another tool that I can use to bring information to my students that is engaging and based on historical events. The audio/ podcast is a perfect way to differentiate my instruction for students who have challenges with reading. These students tend to show improvement in comprehension when technology is used to deliver information. I have subscribed and will continue to follow and share with others.

— Teri L. Thompson, Esq.
I listened to this podcast and was surprised how the legal system has been involved in providing justice and protecting the civil rights of African Americans since 1906. I did not know this. This podcast is informative and educational as it teaches history. This podcast lets us know how far we have come and how far we have to go!! Keep up the good work!

The Hidden Legal Figures podcast has broadened my view. Whether you are a law student, or an informal history buff, this podcast is rewarding, entertaining, enlightening and informative. History tends to look at the “spiritual” leaders of the movement but this podcast illuminates the work of the “spirit and truth” of those who fought the good legal fight of faith in, and for a better system for a people in need. Thanks Dr. Pope for bringing the works of these greats “out of darkness and into the marvelous light.”
